About

I am a maker of sculpture, the scale of the work can be sized by my hand, or by the vertical and horizontal reach of my arms.

My work follows an indeterminate route between art and science, the experienced and the observed; a process of gleaning, being awake to the ‘gathering-path.’

Synchronistic connections of myth and legend, culture and craft, are expressed through form, word and line.

In addition to the larger scaled commissioned works, other works are held in private collections both internationally and in the U.K.

Jo Naden - Artist

A long career as a practitioner in the visual arts, with involvement in education and healthcare, the list of engagements has become somewhat extensive. Formative years and early education were experienced in the Derbyshire Peak District, however a Certificate of Education and a Fine Arts Degree were obtained in the West Midlands, where I have fulfilled much of my career to date.

The pandemic gave me an opportunity to make a move to the North Yorkshire Wolds, to be nearer family, sea and chalk. I now work from a studio in my long garden in Scagglethorpe, not far from the market town of Malton.

Commissions are all process lead, responding to the ‘sense of place’ where research of the subject is distilled into an appropriate resolve, documented on the Commissions page.

Key Educational Experience

I do have a small show of personal awards, however commissions that I have undertaken have generally been funded through Arts Council, Local Councils, The National Trust or The National Lottery.
